Philip Seymour Hoffman arrived Nov. 18 for the Los Angeles premiere of 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. The Oscar winner played game maker Plutarch Heavensbee.

Fifty bags of heroin were found in the West Village apartment where Philip Seymour Hoffman died with a needle in his arm, sources said Monday.

Some of the packets were full of horse. Others looked like they had been tapped. And a charred spoon that the Oscar-winning actor appeared to have used to heat-up his last high was found near his body, sources said.

Hoffman, who in 2006 won the Best Actor Academy Award playing the title role in Capote, he admitted last year to falling off the wagon after two decades of being drug free and developing a heroin habit that sent him to rehab.

Investigators also found five prescription drugs in Hoffmans rented apartment, including buprenorphine, which addicts take to help kick a habit.

The others were run of the mill drugs like:

Vyvanse, which is used to treat attention-deficit disorder.

Methocarbamol, which is muscle relaxant.

Hydroxyzine, which is an antihistamine.

Clonidine, which is for high blood pressure.

The revelations came as the medical examiner was preparing to do an autopsy on the beloved 46-year-old actor and police were trying to trace the source of heroin which was marked Ace of Spades and had an ace of hearts symbol stamped on some of the packets, sources said.

Mayor de Blasio called the doomed actor a quintessential New Yorker, in the sense of just everything we love about this place, his creativity and his amazing ability to portray the human condition.

It's absolutely tragic, he said on Brian Lehrers radio show on WNYC. What I can say about his life is even someone of that extraordinary achievement grapples with the demon of substance abuse.

Police were also trying to track Hoffmans movements in recent days.

Neighbors said they saw Hoffman as recently as Saturday and he seemed fine.

He looked like he had just come from California or Florida, he was looking really good, said 74-year-old Avri Ohana, who lives down the block.

Katz had gone to check up on Hoffman after the actor had failed to pick up his three kids from his estranged girlfriend Mimi ODonnell, 46, earlier that morning.

Cops said they planned to use an NYPD drug database to determine the origin of the heroin and to see if it was tainted in any way.

Federal agents seized heroin marked with the Ace of Spades in 2009 in Long Island, a long enforcement source said.

Alex RudA makeshift memorial with bouquets of flowers, pictures and candles was placed on the front steps of the building where Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment Sunday.

"Heroin is pummeling the Northeast, leaving addiction, overdoses and fear in its wake," Drug Enforcement Administration Acting Special Agent in Charge James Hunt said just last week after an $8 million heroin bust in the Bronx.

Meanwhile, friends and neighbors remembered him at a memorial in front of the building where he died.

Colin Stanfield, 45, said he saw Hoffman around "all the time, with his kids in tow, Chelsea piers, playing basketball."

"I guess I'd heard over the years he'd had some troubles but he just seemed like a regular guy," Stanfield said.

About a dozen bouquets of flowers, including roses and orchids, and single flowers were placed on the building's front steps. There were also two pictures of Hoffman and a handful of candles that were lit until they were doused by a steady snow.

"I figured there would be something like this," Stanfield said of the memorial. "Kind of makes it a little more real."
