Once I decided to switch from thermoelectric inefficient coolers to a qualified refrigeration system I found many sizes and designs. The sensitivity of all the systems is the Danfoss compressor which is simply a 12 (and often 24V optional) compressor by environmentally friendly R134 coolant just like a home fridge would. These units all have strong cooling and even freezing capabilities like a home freezer would. What I found is the Engel 35 is smaller and higher priced than the Portable refrigerator & freezer 12/24 V or 110 V which is vaguely larger and around $200 cheaper. Both units can easily swallow 4 12 packs of drinks with room left over and both use the same refrigeration system building them friendly on your car / truck / boat's electrical system. A complete evaluation of the variation in a thermoelectric cooler and a compressor based cooler is on the EdgeStar page. It explains why these cost more and can actually cool down 40+ cans from room temp rather than requiring you to pre-freeze any items inane into the cooler such as the thermoelectric units do.While both units are comparable, you get more for your cash in the Edgestar 43 system. It comes down to what fits in your vehicle at this point.

I almost never review a product, but I couldn't resist when I realized that Amazon conceded these refrigerators. Like others, I purchased this after getting fed up with thermoelectric coolers that either didn't keep food cold or froze it.PROS: Excellent quality!!! - Purchased mine in 2005 and have had no maintenance issues. Not Picky about ventilation - mine sits in the closet of my Peterbilt. Metal exterior - It's well-built enough for me to use it as a stride stool. Good Capacity - I'm gone 4 time at a time and it holds all the food and water i need Great power management - Can leave it on while my truck sets for 3 or 4 time lacking killing the batteriesCONS: Weight- appx. 50 lbs. Single a problem if you need to move it often, but the durability is worth it. Price - Fairly high-priced, but it has compensated for itself many times over!

We have been by this freezer for about 1-1/2 being. It facility splendid. We carry it in a storage space screened-off area on our travel trailer, wired to both 110AC and 12 volt DC. It keeps all solidly frozen, even in 90+ F ride out. The thermometer very nearly always says just so 0 degrees. When not roving we have used it for extra refrigerator space, and in the car to keep things cold even as grocery shopping. It's pricey, but very well made. I recommend it to others.
